The last trapiche, or traditional handcrafted wooden cane mill in the southern sierra de la Giganta operated as recently as Christmas 1998. Unfortunately it was later sold to a local store which resold it to a private individual in Loreto. What a pity. If you spot it lying in someone’s backyard in Loreto, let us know. It really belongs back in the sierra as a wonderful piece of its living history.
